The Chemistry of High-Density Puff Printing
3D Puff printing is an advanced screen-printing technique where a specialized foaming blowing agent is blended into plastisol or water-based inks. When cured under high-temperature infrared heating ovens at 320°F (160°C), the ink expands outward, creating a raised, tactile 3D relief texture that pops off the garment.
While exceptionally durable when cured properly, puff inks require deliberate care to prevent surface cracking or heat degradation.
The 4 Golden Rules of Washing
1. Always Turn Garments INSIDE OUT
Before tossing your tees or hoodies into the hamper, flip them inside out. This shields the raised puff surface and high-density screen graphics from mechanical friction against the washing machine drum, zippers, and buttons.
2. Cold Water Only (30°C / 86°F Max)
Hot water softens polymer bonds and promotes dye bleed. Always wash in cold water using a gentle or delicate cycle.
3. Skip the Harsh Bleach & Fabric Softeners
Chemical softeners leave a silicone coating on cotton fibers that breaks down print adhesion over time. Use a mild liquid detergent free of optical brighteners.
4. Air Dry in Shade — Never Tumble Dry High
The intense tumbling heat of residential clothes dryers is the #1 killer of streetwear graphics. Always hang dry or lay flat in the shade. Direct tropical sun can also cause ultraviolet fading.
"CRITICAL: Never run a hot iron directly across 3D puff prints or screen art! Always iron garments inside-out on low heat, or use a cotton pressing cloth."
